Kids Day

Assist with organizing supplies, preparing craft stations, and helping children participate in the activities. A background check is required, and volunteers should have a passion for working with children and creating a fun, welcoming enviroment.

Parade

Assist with participant check-in, event set up, staging parade entries, keeping the parade moving safely and smoothly, and bringing holiday spirit while walking alonside floats. Their enthusiasm and support help make the Christmas parade a memorable tradition each year.

Merchandise Sales

These volunteers help prepare and sell official Old-Fashioned Christmas merchandise throughout the season. The responsibilties include organizing inventory, rolling shirts, setting up merchandise displays, assisting customers with purchases, and using the Square point-of-sale system to process transactions.

Decorating The Square

Help us transform Dahlonega's Historic Square into the magical Christmas destination visitors and locals know and love. From hanging garland, wreaths, bows, and lights to making handmade decorations, these volunteers are essential in completeting our holiday tradition.

This one our most important roles because it is the helping hands behind many of our Christmas events. From setting up before the festivities begin to taking everything down afterwards, these volunteers help ensure each event runs smoothly from start to finish.

Our Story

Our Past 

Christmas in Dahlonega began in 1963. For generations, our community has been brought to life by the hands and hearts of the people who call it home. What began with local businesses, volunteers, students, and city employees coming together to decorate by hand grew into a cherished holiday tradition.

With the spirit of the season, southern kindness, and our supportive community, neighbors worked side by side to create something special. Proving that the magic of Christmas was never about how much was spent, but about the people who made it happen.

Today, that same tradition continues, carrying forward the memories, friendships, and small-town Christmas spirit passed down from one generation to the next.

The Present

The Old Fashioned Christmas Comittee remains all volunteer based. Proudly continuing to carry this cherished traditon over the past six decades. 

​

Through the generosity of local businesses, we are able to raise funds each year to decorate the historic square. To this day, volunteers come together to create the magical Christmas experience that has made Dahlonega one of America's most beloved Christmas towns.
